I think I am on a bit of a roll with my ranting right now, so I’m gonna have another rant. This time about how the government is a hypocrite and gay marriage should be legal.
I found an ad in the newspaper a while ago. The government put it there. And I know that because of a little Australian Government picture in the corner, and how it said at the bottom: Authorised by the Australian Government, Capital Hill, Canberra. The ad took up a whole page. It featured 2 photos of a bathroom. Each photo was identical, but one had the word “GAY” at the bottom and the other had the word “STRAIGHT”. The writing was: COUPLES ARE COUPLES. New laws mean couples have to tell Centrelink about their relationship from 1 July 2009. It then went on to say that Centrelink recognises same-sex couples, as couples are couples, no matter what. I think you understand what I’m getting to here.
If “couples are couples”, then what is stopping same-sex couples from getting married? Because it sounds to me like the government is being hypocritical and simultaneously giving same-sex couples a relationship responsibility while taking away a relationship right. Because couples ARE couples. Gay people should be allowed to get married if they want, because they are just like everyone else! The government should make up it’s mind. Either couples are couples, or they’re not.
